Physical Therapy and Kidney Care
Chinatown Kidney Care, PLLC now is proud to announce that it will provide physical therapy for its patients by professional physical therapists.
Although the use of certain techniques of physical therapy goes back to ancient times, the modern profession of physical therapy developed in the twentieth century. Physical therapists now practice in a wide variety of settings, with patients from all age groups and with different health problems such as Renal Failure and Renal Insufficiency.
Beside Renal Failure itself, patients with Renal Failure often have cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, as well as neurological and musculoskeleten disorders.
The ability to maintain an upright posture and to move your arms and legs to perform all sorts of tasks and activities is an important component of your health. Most of us can learn to live with the various medical conditions that we may develop, but only if we are able to continue at our jobs, take care of our families, and enjoy important occasions with family and friends. All of these activities require the ability to move without difficulty or pain.
Patients with Renal Failure often develop arthritis, osteodystrophy, secondary hyperparathyroidism, adynamic bone disease, and osteoporosis, which will lead to back pain, neck pain, shoulder, arm, wrist, or hand problems, knee, ankle, or foot problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, and hip fractures, etc. Our physical therapists can diagnose, manage, and treat these disorders by joint mobilizations, strength training, hot/cold packs, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound treatments.
For some of us, the ability to move is not merely a matter of using our limbs to walk or handle objects. There are cardiac and pulmonary problems that interfere with the body's ability to use oxygen, which is the "fuel" of muscles and movement. Patients with Renal Failure often have coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, calcification of cardiovascular system, and pulmonary diseases. Our physical therapists can improve these conditions by increasing patients endurance, functional independence, and even cardiac and pulmonary functions.
